For students, a better future.
For our community, a better tomorrow.
Who we are
Better Future Foundation Mission: Provide highly personalized educational services to first generation college students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch in the Charlottesville area in order to close the achievement gap.
What we do
Each year, first-generation, low-income collegebound sophomores in the Charlottesville area can apply to become part of our intentionally small Better Future Fellows cohort. Selected students work as a team to learn the in’s and out’s of “What’s next?” They plan for college and beyond while learning leadership traits, engaging in public service, and enhancing personal development through group workshops, site visits, and one-on-one coaching. After two years of educational support through the final years of high school and through the application process, Fellows receive additional guidance during their first year of college to ensure success. Through raising the level of education attainment and professional readiness in Charlottesville-area residents, we’re working toward a better future for our Fellows and for Central Virginia.
ACHIEVEMENTS
In the last year, we are proud to announce that our Fellows received acceptances to an array of colleges including James Madison University, the College of William & Mary, University of Denver, Sweet Briar College, Mary Baldwin University, Radford College, and Christopher Newport.
